Arlington Police are investigating a deadly crash that killed a child just after midnight Wednesday.

A car and a dump truck were traveling westbound on Interstate 20 near the US Highway 287 interchange when they collided.

Investigators believe the driver of the car became distracted, causing them to take their eyes off the road. The car then crashed into the rear end of the dump truck.

The driver of the car had two children in the backseat. All three were transported to local hospitals, where one of the children, identified only as a 6-year-old girl, later died.

Police said the child who died was in a car seat, but that she may not have been restrained at the time of the crash.

The drivers of both the car and the truck, as well as the other child, are expected to be OK.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the child’s identity after the family has been notified.
