Chef Mike Behrend at Green Vegetarian Cuisine took to Facebook on Tuesday, March 24, to announce the restaurant’s sole remaining location at Alamo Quarry Market will “close its doors permanently on April 17, 2026” after 19 years in business. The chef cited the “pressures of rising costs” — something they’ve been struggling with for years — along with a shift in “consumer behavior over the last five years” as the key reasons for closing.

“Thank you to all who have supported us over the years as customers and partners. Nineteen years in operation is a success for any restaurant,” Behrend said in the announcement. “It’s been a great run. We’ve introduced a lot of people to great tasting plant-based food.”Ā

Behrend further stressed that he and his business partners hope “that we have made a positive impact in San Antonio,” adding that they “have tried everything to keep open and serve our community and staff.” However, rising costs and changes in customer behavior ultimately “forced” them to close.Ā

MySA reached out to the restaurant for additional comment and will update this story should we receive a response.Ā

There are three weeks left to support the business before it shutters for good, which Behrend said would be “greatly appreciated” leading up to the eatery’s impendingĀ closure on Friday, April 17. The restaurant will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to the announcement.
