HAYS COUNTY, Texas — The West Travis County Public Utility Agency issued a boil water notice Wednesday morning for approximately 11,000 customers in its Highway 290 service region after an equipment failure caused water tank levels to drop critically low.

The notice affects customers in northern Hays County, along a service line running from Circle Drive to the Dripping Springs city limits. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the agency to issue the notice.

Customers in the affected area were advised to bring water to a vigorous rolling boil for two minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing hands or making ice. Bottled water may be used as an alternative.

Officials urged customers not to irrigate Wednesday as crews worked to replenish tank levels. Residents may experience no water or low water pressure until tanks are refilled.

Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra shared the notice on Facebook, saying that “water line breaks happen more often than people realize.”

“I’m sharing this so folks understand why things like school closures can happen, and to help get the word out on the boil water notice,” Becerra said. “Please stay mindful and know crews are actively working to get this repaired.”

The boil water notice applies only to the 290 region and does not affect all WTCPUA customers.
