A man killed in a dirt bike crash near downtown has been identified as a father of three and former employee of the Bexar County Clerk’s Office.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner said Matthew Hinojosa, 38, died of blunt force injuries in the wreck Friday. His death was ruled an accident.
The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hoefgen Avenue and Florida Street, just south of the Alamodome, according to a preliminary San Antonio police report.
Hinojosa was riding south on Hoefgen when a Mazda driver traveling west on Florida stopped at a stop sign and then entered the intersection and hit him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver didn’t see Hinojosa before hitting him, police said. Authorities determined the driver was not intoxicated and said criminal charges were not expected.
A husband and a father of three children, Hinojosa was known as a dedicated family man, according to a GoFundMe page created to fund his funeral services.
“Matthew was the kind of person who loved deeply—his family and his friends always came first,” the fundraiser reads. “He brought warmth, laughter, and kindness wherever he went, and his absence is felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”
He worked under Bexar County Clerk Lucy Adame-Clark as a probate estate clerk from early 2022 to late 2024. She remembers him as a hardworking member of the probate department when Covid hit.
After leaving the office for a job with Alamo Colleges, Hinojosa’s outgoing and sociable personality kept him connected with his former colleagues. He attended a luncheon for current and former staff members in February.
“He was a big giant with a big heart,” Adame-Clark said.
She offered condolences to Hinojosa’s family and young children. Employees will be provided with free transport to his funeral services, which have not been announced.
“Though Matthew was with our office for only a short time, the kindness, positivity, and warmth he brought each day made a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of working alongside him,” her office wrote in a social media post. “He will be remembered fondly by his coworkers and all who knew him.”
