EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso residents are being invited to help shape the future of biking in the city as officials begin public engagement for an update to the City of El Paso’s Comprehensive Bike Plan.

The City of El Paso’s Grant Funded Programs Division is hosting an open house community meeting to kick off the process.

The Comprehensive Bike Plan is used to determine how bike lanes, bike share, and other bicycle amenities connect with existing transportation infrastructure to improve mobility and connectivity throughout the city.

City officials say the plan serves as a guide for identifying which streets are best suited for bicycling and how infrastructure investments and policy initiatives can make cycling a safer, more comfortable, and more practical option for people of all ages and abilities.

The community meeting comes after the city adopted its first Comprehensive Bike Plan a decade ago.

As part of the update, the city is seeking input from El Pasoans on the changes that have made the biggest impact, the improvements they would like to see in the years ahead, and the areas that may need more immediate attention.

The 2026 update is expected to be finalized in winter 2026 and will help guide priorities and investment in bicycle infrastructure over the next decade.

The plan is also expected to focus on practical, neighborhood-scale solutions aimed at making biking a more viable transportation option across El Paso.

Residents who cannot attend the open house can still participate by taking an online survey, available in English and Spanish here.
