If your Wednesday could use a little extra tail-wagging energy, meet Archer — an adoptable pup from Texas Humane Heroes who’s looking for a forever home!

Archer stopped by “We Are Austin” for the show’s Wednesday Friendsday segment alongside Christian Long, the director of communications for Texas Humane Heroes. The visit spotlighted Archer as a three-legged dog who’s still learning how to get around, and it also highlighted several ways the community can support the shelter’s work.
“Archer is just shy of six months old, we think. And he first came into our care last month. He was already missing that front right leg. There were some wounds on his tail and his hindquarters, so we had to remove the tail. A very rough start for this little guy. But at no point has he lost his loving disposition. He is friendly with everyone the whole time. He’s clingy and just wants to be your friend. And now that he’s all healed up, thanks to our veterinary staff, he’s ready for his forever home.”

Texas Humane Heroes is also encouraging animal lovers to vote in the Pet Lovers’ Choice Awards to support pets connected to the organization.
“We want you to vote and support this effort. Less than 12 hours left! We have about a dozen dogs, total, but three of them are still looking for homes. You can vote once for free. And if you want to buy some extra votes, all that money goes back to some of the shelters that are participating in it. So support supports a great cause, and yeah, get some extra love and attention to our shelter pups.”

Looking ahead, Texas Humane Heroes has an event called “Tails and Trails” coming up, and the organization is also working on new kennels — a project aimed at shaping the shelter’s future.
“Tails and Trails is on April 18th. It’s a walk around our 22-acre property. Participants can get pledges from other people saying, ‘I’m going to walk X number of times around.’ Each lap is about a mile, give or take. And this is our second annual walk.”
