Gas prices continue to climb as crude oil and spring travel pushes demand higher

  • March 26, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Crude oil prices remain elevated as the Iran conflict nears the four-week mark, and gasoline demand is also increasing as spring travel season continues.

The statewide gas prices average in Texas is $3.61 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That’s three cents more than this time last week, and 85 cents more than last year.

Lubbock drivers are paying $3.28 a gallon on average, down three cents from a week ago, but still 65 cents over this time last year. That is the second lowest average in the stay, only beaten in Amarillo by one cent, $3.27. Midland sits at the highest in the state at $3.89 a gallon. The national average is at $3.98, ten cents more than this time last week, and 83 cents more than last year. That price could reach $4 per gallon in the coming days for the first time since August 2022.

AAA Texas has some fuel tips for helping you save money despite the rising gas prices.
