LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The annual LCU for LBK event sent students to over 20 locations, including food banks, nursing homes and nonprofits serving vulnerable populations.
Sophomore Karleigh Babcock chose to spend her day at Heritage House, a nonprofit supporting mothers and their children. She tackled yard work alongside other volunteers.
“I just hope they feel fulfilled just knowing they are doing good work for the kingdom and we don’t have to wait until LCU for LBK day, we can do it all the time everyday no matter if we are those organizations or somewhere on campus,” Babcock said.
Emily Roark participated in LCU for LBK for the third time this year. She spent her afternoon singing at a nursing home, bringing moments of connection to residents who may not receive many visitors.
“It feels really amazing just rewarding just to be here today. Just to be around people who are here that just loves the Lord and just want to service it makes me really happy,” Roark said.
Senior Mia Johnson, now in her fourth year participating, volunteered at Saint Benedict’s, an organization providing resources to people experiencing homelessness.
“I hope they feel that they are seen they do much to make others feel seen and I hope they see that we want to help them grow and their is seen,” Johnson said.
Students worked on different tasks at different locations, but shared a common purpose: taking one step toward making a difference in the community.
