Growth remains a constant in North Texas but new U.S. Census numbers show the trend mitigating and underscore how a slowdown in international migration is impacting the region.

The Dallas-Fort Worth region experienced the second largest population increase among metropolitan areas nationwide from July 1, 2024 to July 1, 2025, according to new estimates published March 25 by the U.S. Census Bureau. This new ranking marks a small increase from the area’s prior third place rank and brings the region closer to its first-place rank in 2024.

With the addition of an estimated 123,557 residents, DFW as a whole added roughly the equivalent of a city the size of Allen or College Station in a single year. The estimates work out to about 339 additional Metroplex residents per day, including both births and migration. That has a huge impact on sectors from residential real estate to workforce and hiring.

That meant DFW was home to about 8.4 million people as of mid-2025, an increase of about 1.4% from the year prior. But that was down from the 2.3% increase seen from 2023 to 2024, with a sharp slump in international migration.
