SAN ANTONIO – Four families were left without homes after a fire destroyed four houses in Pleasanton, but officials said no one was killed or injured.
Fire crews were still working the scene in Atascosa County as they worked to put out hot spots to prevent the fire from re-igniting.
The fire started around 1:45 p.m. off Waycross Road near Old Pleasanton Road. Firefighters said it began as a grass fire before spreading to four homes. When crews arrived, two homes were already engulfed in flames. Wind helped the fire spread quickly to two other houses.
One of the homes belonged to James Andrews, who said he was at work when the fire broke out and rushed home to check on his mother.
“They got her out before I came up here,” Andrews said. “One of the firefighters and one of my friends who has some firefighter experience went into the house and got to her before the flames got to her. She was literally the only thing I was thinking about coming in. Yeah, I would like to have my Xbox still. I’d like to have my clothes so I can go to work. But right now I’m glad she’s ok.”
Andrews said he does not know where he and his mother will go from here, but he is thankful that the only thing lost was the home.
