Longtime North Texas retailer Weir’s Furniture Village Inc. is closing all stores after 78 years in business.

The retailer, with stores in Southlake, Farmers Branch, Plano and Dallas, announced the news on social media on Wednesday.

“This was an extremely difficult decision, but closing now enables us to honor J. Ray and Bea’s legacy by finishing well and taking care of our employees,” board chairman Al Boulden said in a statement shared by Star-Telegram media partner WFAA.

The family-owned business was founded by J. Ray and Bea Weir who opened their first storefront in 1948 in the Knox Street area of Dallas.

“For nearly eight decades, we have believed that home is more than just a place — it’s where memories are made, families gather, and lives are lived with purpose and joy,” the retailer said in a statement. “With your support, we have helped countless families create inviting, stylish spaces — all with the courtesy, respect, and integrity that are the cornerstones of who we are.”

The company said a closing sale will start on Thursday with up to 30% off all merchandise.
