County officials say the order could be lifted sooner if conditions improve.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Nueces County has extended its burn ban for 30 more days, keeping it in place through April 28, 2026, for all areas outside city limits.

In a press release on Friday, Nueces County officials said the ban covers all outdoor burning, including residential, yard, and beach fires.

County officials say the order could be lifted sooner if conditions improve.

Some activities are still allowed under state rules, including firefighting training, utility and pipeline work, agricultural burning, and approved prescribed burns.

Backyard cooking, such as barbecues and cookouts, is still allowed.

Officials remind residents that burning trash is allowed only if regular trash pickup is unavailable and must be done safely in a covered container with a screen to prevent sparks.

Residents are also urged to use caution with equipment that can spark, like lawn mowers or welding tools, especially during hot, dry conditions. Parking on dry grass is discouraged due to fire risk.

Violations of the burn ban can result in a fine of up to $500.
