It’s been a big month for restaurant openings and closures around Fort Worth – especially in the ‘burbs. A surprise shutter of a popular Keller-area Mexican restaurant is leaving locals without their favorite little family-run spot. But there’s good news for doughnut lovers, pizza fans, and ladies who lunch.

Here’s what’s been happening lately on the Fort Worth restaurant scene:

Martha’s Mexican Cocina, at 4240 Heritage Trace Pkwy., in far north Fort Worth/Keller has closed. An eviction notice appeared on the door, furniture was cleared off the patio, and a phone recording said they were closed on Friday, March 27. Martha’s had been a longtime go-to neighborhood spot for sizzling fajitas, enchiladas, Mexican seafood specials, creamy jalapeno soup, margaritas, and more. A shaded patio, kids’ menu, and a few American standards like cheeseburgers helped it attract families.

In 2017, CultureMap called their Ultimate Queso one of the best in town, noting that it’s “served in a big molcajete, a virtual vat of glorious melted cheese, spiked with ground beef, pico de gallo, and a big scoop of their excellent guacamole.” The closure came as a surprise to locals, who were still lining up with wait times on recent weekends. Watch their Facebook page and website for any announcements about gift cards, catering orders, or additional information.

Smoothie Factory + Kitchen, at 8517 Davis Blvd. in North Richland Hills, has closed. The restaurant from the owners of Smoothie Factory opened in 2023 as a first-of-its-kind concept, serving salads, grilled folds, toast options, smoothie bowls, and more. According the website, a location in Colleyville remains open.

Felina, a new spinoff of the acclaimed Bocca Osteria Romana, just opened in the old Funky Picnic Brewery & Cafe space at 401 Bryan Ave. in Fort Worth’s Near Southside. While owners Alessandro and Alfonso Salvatore have described it as a place serving authentic Italian fare, the pizza is the star of the show. They’re serving pizza tonda Romana — thin, crispy, and true to Rome — in delectable varieties such as the La Felina, featuring house ragu, roast poblano crema, fior de latte, and golden raisins; and the Hot Mess, with sopprasetta, whipped ricotta, and hot honey. It’s one of many new pizzeria openings in recent months; read all the trend here.

Simply Fondue is leaving its longtime subterranean location in Sundance Square. According to the owners, they’ll wind down operations there at the end of April. But it’s not goodbye, it’s see ya in our next spot. In an announcement on the restaurant’s website, management is keeping mum about the new location, but diners are being told by restaurant personnel that the new spot will be near the Fort Worth Convention Center – as previously reported by the Star-Telegram. They’ll be closed until fall for the move.

USA Donuts & Croissants has debuted in Haltom City, at 5400 Denton Hwy., in a former taco shop. The locally owned sweet spot is gaining early fans for its colorful and creative doughnuts made in house, in flavors like maple-bacon and “cookie monster,” along with deep-fried “cronuts,” eclairs, kolaches, sausage rolls, and breakfast sandwiches.

7 Brew, the drive-thru coffee shop, has opened its first location in Cleburne, at 1211 W. Henderson St. After a grand-opening ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 26 (at which they presented a $1,500 check to CASA of Johnson County), the shop will open officially on Monday, March 30. They will also host a Swag Day on Saturday, April 4, where customers who purchase a large drink will get a free 7 Brew t-shirt.

Tabla Indian Restaurant has closed one door and opened another. The location that debuted from Florida in early 2025 at 5633 N. Tarrant Pkwy., in far north Forth, near the border of Keller and Watauga, will be “temporarily unavailable for some time,” they announced on Facebook. But a new Tabla at 1000 Texan Trail #130 in Grapevine has opened. Watch the website for current specials, as they just get started, as well as for details on their grand opening.

Cafe Mirador, a “little sister” to the larger, acclaimed downtown Dallas restaurant Mirador, has opened in the Fort Worth Cultural District. There’s no sign outside, and no street-facing door, so you have to know this: It’s attached to the brand new luxury women’s boutique, Forty Five Ten, address: 3220 W. Seventh St. The intimate, 33-seat cafe is open for brunch and lunch during daytime hours only: 11 am-3 pm Wednesday-Friday and 10:30 am-3 pm Saturday-Sunday. Menu highlights include Ahi Tuna Cornettes ($22), a Lobster Roll ($27), Farro Bowl ($17), and Crispy Chicken Bites ($15), and brunch dishes such as a Chia Bowl ($17), Breakfast Sandwich ($15), and Eggs Benedict ($22). There’s also a full bar, featuring signature cocktails like the Uni 73, a purple-tinged take on a French 75 with a nod to TCU.

Hash Kitchen has refreshed its menu with new sweet and savory additions, including a PB&J French Toast with Frosted Flakes-crusted Texas toast, peanut butter, and strawberry preserves. The restaurant is also expanding its lunch lineup with items like a Southwestern bowl, build-your-own side plates, sandwiches, salads, and a new option to turn bowls or salads into wraps.

The Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival, coming up April 9-12, has revealed the whole schedule of events and lineup of chefs for each one. Events include Tacos + Tequila (April 9), The Main Event (April 10), Fork + Fire (April 11), and The Big Brunch (April 12). For the first time, the festival will include not only Fort Worth-area chefs, but those from around the state. Tickets vary by event and start at $75, available here.

Fort Worth Opera and Texas Ballet Theater have culinary fundraising events on the same day, Sunday, April 12, and – oh no, what is an arts-loving social butterfly to do?

Texas Ballet Theater’s Swan Lake High Tea takes place at 11 am April 12 at the Crescent Fort Worth Hotel (ahead of the company’s performances of Swan Lake on May 15-17 at Bass Hall). Designed for guests of all ages, the event promises “a refined high tea paired with an engaging introduction to the world of ballet.” It will include tea service with classic selections, bubbles and wine for adults, and programming for children. Tickets are $250 adults and $370 for an adult-and-child combo ticket; available here.

Fort Worth Opera’s Butterfly Brunch takes place at 12 noon April 12 at Van Cliburn Recital Hall, right before the 2 pm matinee presentation of the company’s Madama Butterfly, across the street at Bass Hall. The event promises a Japanese-inspired culinary experience – a brunch buffet featuring hand-rolled sushi, savory bites, seasonal offerings, and elegant sweets – “all thoughtfully prepared to evoke the flavors and spirit of Japan.” Tickets are $75, available here. (Opera tickets sold separately.)
