Davenport’s precision passing fueled an overwhelming attack, and the result was an 8-0 victory against Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway in a Class 4A Division I regional semifinal on Friday at Harlandale Memorial Stadium.
Senior Emily Wash scored three goals and senior Abby Symon had two to lead the Wolves, who owned a 33-1 advantage in shots. Amberley Mazurak, McKenzie Torrez and Payton Sparks also added scores in a match that was stopped with 20 minutes remaining because of the mercy rule.

Davenport worked outside pressure to create inside space for scoring opportunities.
“It’s a huge part, like we are always talking to each other positively and we’re communicating,” Sparks said of the Wolves’ ability to attack. “I feel using those triangles with constant pressure keeps our team together and it flows together. We all have this special talent and putting it all together really works out.”
The Wolves (18-5-1) face La Vernia in a state quarterfinal early next week. La Vernia (20-4-1) defeated Corpus Christi Calallen, 1-0, on Friday. The Wolves defeated the Bears in the same round last year, 4-0.
Sparks worked the ball wide along the right side to create the inside space. Wash and Symon expertly passed through seas of legs inside for optimal scoring chances.

“We use the width as much as we can and space out the players when they compact the team because that’s what they did,” Symon said. “Then, we found the middle and put it in.”
It took a while to get going, though. But, that constant pressure paid off when the Cherokees fouled Wash in the box while she was getting to crank a shot. That led to Wash’s penalty kick that put Davenport in the lead 12 minutes in.
