BOYSWyatt rallies, wins in a shootout over Hanks

Fort Worth Wyatt had to come from behind twice to send it to overtime and then a shootout, but the Chaparrals got a standout performance from goalkeeper Pascual Ramirez to down El Paso Hanks 3-2 with a 4-2 advantage in penalty kicks in a Class 5A Division 2 regional semifinals on Friday at Wolfforth Frenship High School.

Wyatt (17-7-1), the fourth-place team out of District 7-5A, moves on to the regional final, but won’t be facing district rival Fort Worth Trimble Tech after the Bulldogs dropped their match to El Paso Burges (18-5-0) by a score of 1-0 on Friday.

The Chaparrals, making their furthest advancement in the playoffs in school history in boys soccer, will meet Burges in the 5A D2 Region 1 Final at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Astound Broadband Stadium in Midland. This is the first time Wyatt has made it past the second round of the playoffs.

Hanks (13-12-0) took a 1-0 lead at the half, but Wyatt tied it in the second half on a goal by Hamid Amiri that was assisted by Desire Kyanga. After the Knights took a 2-1 lead a short time later, the Chaps rallied again with a header by Bryan Monsivais off a feed from Venas Abubakari.

After two, scoreless, 10-minute overtime periods the game went to a shootout where Ramirez starred. The senior was able to stop two shots by Hanks while Jacob Olalde punched in what proved to be the game winner.
