A popular travel magazine recommends considering a visit to an often overlooked town by Texans when planning an escape.

Travel + Leisure, a national media brand, recently named Boerne, a Texas Hill Country city just northwest of San Antonio, the “most underrated” small town in the Texas Hill Country.

In a March 23, 2026 article mapping out peak day trip activities for eager travelers, the publication mentions Boerne’s unique small-town attractions, German heritage and walking-friendly visitor amenities, like restaurants and shops located on the Hill Country Mile

“Often overshadowed by nearby Fredericksburg, Boerne has a different kind of charm that feels a bit more down-to-earth, intimate, and unhurried,” the publication says.

Boerne’s winding country roads, sprawling ranches and stunning Hill Country views get a major shout-out in the article.

The historic downtown area, which some say looks as if it’s straight out of a Hallmark movie, is located along the Hill Country Mile, known for its cute shops, bookstores, restaurants and wineries.

As for the eateries in the city, “… Boerne may be small, nut it has a mighty restaurant scene,” the publication added. Spots like The Dodging Duck Brewhaus, Pinchy’s Lobster & Rawbar and The Dienger Trading Co. are all highlighted.

“Though Boerne may not have the same recognition (yet) as some of its Hill Country cousins, it’s more than worth an afternoon—or even a long weekend—spent exploring its darling streets,” the article reads.
