Dallas PD has identified a suspect nearly two years after Juvenal Antero was shot protecting his family during a Pleasant Grove home invasion.

DALLAS, Texas — Nearly two years after 24-year-old Juvenal Antero was shot and killed defending his family during a home invasion, Dallas police have identified a suspect in his death.

Investigators say 26-year-old Arnold Sustaita Zapata is wanted in connection with the 2023 shooting at the family’s apartment on South St. Augustine Drive. He remains on the loose.

Antero’s wife, Elizabel Cardenas, says two men came to their door pretending to need help before forcing their way in with a gun.

Cardenas said Antero was shot while protecting his 4-year-old son. She was pregnant at the time; Antero would never meet his daughter.

“Everything was about family to him,” she said.

Surveillance video released by Dallas PD weeks after the shooting shows three men running from the scene and getting into a red vehicle.

Cardenas says the new development brings a measure of relief.

“Finally, you know, there’s a face, there’s a name,” she said.

But she’s still waiting for justice, and raising two children without their father.

“How do you live with yourself knowing that you took someone’s dad away?” she said.
