A San Antonio child actor made her big screen debut this month — alongside movie star Kevin Bacon.

Emery Kaler plays Young Ula, the daughter of a movie director played by Bacon in “Family Movie,” which was released on March 13. The horror film’s premise: Jack Smith, played by Bacon, is directing a low-budget movie starring members of his own family. Everything changes when they find a dead body on set and have to cover up a murder to keep on filming.

Kaler, 9, is from San Antonio and now lives in Boerne, according to an interview with MySA. While Kaler has just a few lines in the movie, she described Bacon, the “Footloose” and “Apollo 13” star, as “really nice and sweet.”

Her father, John Kaler, told MySA that he recorded her audition and sent it to the casting director. Kaler told the outlet that while she hasn’t watched many horror movies before, but her role includes one particularly violent scene.

The movie premiered at  2026 South by Southwest’s film festival in Austin earlier this month.

The film — as hinted at by the title — is a family affair. Bacon co-directed it with his wife, and it stars two of his kids.
