No Tarrant County restaurants were shut down as a result of the March 15-21 health inspections, but two establishments received low scores, according to data from the county compiled by the Star-Telegram.

The new Tarrant County Public Health system considers 100 as the highest possible score, while 70 is considered extremely poor. Restaurants scoring below 70 require a follow-up inspection.

Riz Gift Shop at 5136 Jacksboro Highway in Sansom Park scored 63 on March 17. The inspector discovered rat droppings in the water heater closet, severely discolored pepperoni in the freezer and food stored without a date label.

The floor drain was also backed up, and the facility wasn’t allowed to sell open food until the wastewater system could be repaired. Riz Gift Shop received a score of 87 on March 19 and was approved to sell food again.

Big Fish Seafood Grill and Bar at 414 S. Main St. in Grapevine scored 64 on March 17. The inspector found moldy food in the walk-in cooler, drain flies in the dry storage area and insecticide stored on a shelf near some clean dishes. The restaurant scored 91 on a follow-up inspection two days later.

Lulu’s Tacos at 2001 S. Las Vegas Trail in White Settlement scored 71 on March 17. Frozen beef was thawing outside the refrigerator and employees were using a cutting board laid over a trash can as a food preparation table.

Only one facilty had issues with cockroaches:

LaMa, located at 1501 E. Pipeline Road in Bedford scored 86 on March 20. The inspector found black residue inside the ice machine, two expired cans of Vienna Sausage and dead cockroaches at a floor drain.

Mice droppings were noted at another establishment:

Texas Donut at 111 N. Forest Hill Lane in Everman scored 88 on March 16. An employee put on gloves without washing their hands first, some food in the display case didn’t have a time stamp and mouse droppings were found in the restroom.
