DENVER — On National Tight Ends Day, the Cowboys’ starting tight end had no catches and just one target in Sunday’s 44-24 loss at Denver.

Jake Ferguson, fourth in the NFL in catches with 51, was targeted toward the end of the first half, and that throw was intercepted.

All was not lost with the Cowboys’ tight ends.

Luke Schoonmaker had two catches for 25 yards and almost had a touchdown, but his knee landed just short of the goal line after a 14-yard reception.

Brevyn Spann-Ford had one catch for nine yards, and that came on the Cowboys’ first offensive play.

But what about Ferguson?

“They played real wide,” coach Brian Schottenheimer said of the Broncos defenders defending bootlegs, a play Ferguson likes to get passes on. “They are a real wide, contain defense. They line up the widest of the widest. That’s how they call it. [Defensive coordinator] Vance Joseph is a helluva coach and had a great plan.”

It was the sixth time in his career that Ferguson finished without a catch in a game.
