A new mural by artist Jose “Meenr” Arredondo celebrating the FIFA World Cup and Houston’s culture was unveiled in the East End, featuring iconic soccer stars.

HOUSTON — A piece of art celebrating the upcoming FIFA World Cup and Houston’s vibrant culture was unveiled Saturday afternoon on the East End.

Designed by local artist Jose “Meenr” Arredondo, the large-scale mural celebrates the culture and global spirit of soccer.

“We have a large event coming to the city — that’s gonna bring in thousands of people,” said Justin Solomon, “This was painted for the community, by the community.”

The mural features a glimpse of the FIFA World Cup trophy and iconic soccer players Lionel Messi of Argentina, Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, and Edson Alvarez of Mexico.

Organizers with Ninfa’s held a big celebration for the community after the unveiling of the new mural, featuring live music, low riders from Chicano Boulevard, and cocktails.

Houstonians can view the mural at 2727 Canal Street, right behind The Original Ninfa’s restaurant on Navigation Boulevard.
