San Antonio International Airport celebrates opening of Terminal A ground expansion

San Antonio International Airport – Terminal A expansion (March 28, 2026)

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — San Antonio International Airport is announcing the grand opening of the Terminal A expansion, which supports both domestic and international operations, and will add new ground-load gates, passenger areas and a federal inspection station for international arrivals.

The expansion is part of a multi-step process that aims to set up the airport for the future growth of San Antonio and the surrounding area.

A key element of the Terminal A expansion is the ground load facility, which increases SAT’s operational capacity, allowing passengers to board aircraft at ground level instead of using jet bridges. The addition of the ground load facility will enable SAT to accommodate more aircraft and move passengers through Terminal A more efficiently. This added capacity will support airlines in expanding service to and from SAT, driving operational growth and helping the airport keep pace with the San Antonio region’s rising demand for air travel.

“This expansion is building a bridge to the future and reflects our commitment to meeting the growing demand for air travel while continuing to deliver a world-class experience for passengers, airlines and our community,” said Jesus Saenz, IAP, Director of Airports.

This expansion comes at a time when San Antonio ranks among the fastest-growing cities in the nation, and SAT is one of the country’s fastest-growing mid-sized airports, serving more than 10 million passengers annually.

The new Terminal A opened on Friday.
