WACO, Texas – Three Horned Frogs won events on TCU track and field’s first day of competition at the Clyde Hart Classic on Friday night.
Ben Kirbo took home the pole vault title for the second consecutive week. He cleared a season-best 5.38m (17-7 ¾) on his first attempt but was unable to get over the bar at 5.53m. The distance duo of Gabby Martin and Zach Troutman swept the 5000m on the night. Martin won the women’s race in 17:31.10, and Troutman secured the men’s title win 15:10.79.
TCU also saw a runner-up finish from Georgia Scott in the 1500m. The junior dropped a 4:23.39 to place second overall, but first among the collegians. It also ranks No. 5 in school history for the Frogs.
Camryn Kirkland and Josey Whitaker were a part of a 1-2-3 finish for TCU in the 5000m behind Martin. Kirkland turned in a 17:45.34, while Whitaker posted a 17:50.80 PR. In the men’s race, CJ Meyer also secured a top-three result, earning a bronze finish with a time of 15:14.29.
Junior Jayden Douglas crossed the finish line third with a 52.38 in his first 400m hurdles race of the season.
Michael McCloy also followed Kirbo for a second place finish in the men’s pole vault at 4.98m (16-4) for a top-three result.
