Drivers heading through downtown Fort Worth could start seeing delays soon as a construction project shuts down lanes along two well-traveled streets for several weeks.
The City of Fort Worth says the work is focused on repairing deteriorating concrete along a high-traffic corridor to improve safety and reliability.
The goal is to complete the project ahead of the FIFA World Cup, when traffic and pedestrian activity are expected to increase downtown.
That means you may run into slower traffic depending on when and where you travel.
Lane closures and traffic delays are expected along East Weatherford Street and East Belknap Street between Pecan Street and Nichols Street as construction runs from March 30 through July 31, 2026, with a pause during the FIFA World Cup. Construction will impact East Weatherford Street and East Belknap Street, both between Pecan Street and Nichols Street in downtown Fort Worth.
Work on East Weatherford Street is scheduled to begin March 30, and continue through May 8.
During that time, two lanes will be closed while one lane remains open, so you should expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
Construction will then move to East Belknap Street, starting May 11, through June 5, with the same lane reductions in place.
The project will pause from June 8 through July 19 to avoid disruptions during the FIFA World Cup, then resume July 20 and is expected to finish by July 31.
