The Frogs defeated Virginia 79-69 in Sacramento, California and advanced to the Elite Eight for the second time in school history. TCU last reached the Elite Eight in 2025.
Olivia Miles opened the scoring for the game with a layup early in the first quarter. Right after Virginia answered, TCU came back with back-to-back threes from Marta Suarez and Taylor Bigby.
The Virginia offense was hot early, leading at the end of the first quarter, putting TCU down 21-17.
Marta Suarez continued her early scoring success, opening up the scoring for the second quarter with a layup. Suarez finally got the lead back for TCU with a three to put TCU up 28-27 halfway through the second.
TCU and Virginia continued to battle throughout the second before Virginia took the lead just before half, sinking a couple free throws to put them up 36-35 going into halftime.
The Frogs came out of half on an 11-0 run starting from a Taylor Bigby three. Virginia could not answer the TCU run and it set the tone for the rest of the game. The Frogs scored 24 points in the third and went into the fourth up 59-47.
Clara Silva started the scoring for TCU in the fourth off an Olivia Miles assist. Anytime Virginia scored, TCU had an answer back. Virginia tried to claw back but eventually ran out of time as TCU hung on to advance to the Elite Eight.
Marta Suarez had a career high in points and a double-double finishing with 33 points and 10 rebounds. Olivia Miles also had a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Miles and Suarez scored or assisted on all of TCU’s 79 points.
TCU now reaches the furthest they have advanced in the NCAA tournament, matching last year’s run where TCU lost to Texas in the Elite Eight.
