Anyone who has traveled north on 9W from Highland to Kingston is bound to have seen the El Paso Winery. It has been there for close to 50 years. Heading north, it would be on your left once you hit Ulster Park. For as long as I have lived in Ulster County, the beautiful brown barn with its cheerful flags welcoming people to the tasting room and deck has been flying.

Sadly, this weekend will be your last chance to stop in at the El Paso Winery. It appears they are closing for good this time. The last day they will be open will be this Friday, October 31st, 2025, Halloween.

El Paso Announces That It Will Be Closing Permanently

Over the years, there have been times when it looked like the owners, Jerry and Maryl, were ready to retire and head out for other adventures, but as Maryl explained in a recent Facebook post, it didn’t ever seem to happen. Somehow, they always landed back in Ulster Park at the Winery, which they both cherished.

If you get a chance, read the Facebook post. It is heartfelt and really explains the end of this tasty winery that has been a staple in Ulster County for decades. Maryl, the owner of the winery, shared her journey to the decision to close El Paso, which will happen this week.

When is El Paso Winery in Ulster Park, New York, Closing

If you want to buy the last of the bottles and enjoy one more tasting, you can do that on Thursday and/or Friday this week, and then the doors will close officially. I do not doubt that people will take the opportunity to stop in one last time.

As for the future of the property and the winery, that question was not asked or answered, so I guess we will have to wait and see what moves in next. It is a great location on 9W, and it is centrally located, so it would be a great place for another winery or even a restaurant.

Hudson Valley Wineries are some of the best in New York. This quick list is easy to visit for an afternoon of tasting. Many offer specialty weekends such as sangria fests. Some are perfect for a wedding, and some even act as music venues for top-performing artists. The one thing they all have in common is flavorful wine.

How to Make a Pumpkin Bird Feeder

I can’t take credit for inventing this clever fall-themed bird feeder. I actually saw it first posted by the Farmer’s Almanac. This is the Pumpkin Birdfeeder I made with a Hudson Valley pumpkin and some birdseed grown in the USA. Nature arts and crafts at my house turned out to be really easy and fun to watch once the squirrels and chipmunks found it.
