Houston, Texas (WIBW) – Topeka native Gary Woodland won the Texas Children’s Houston Open on Sunday — his first championship since 2019.
The 41-year-old American closed with a dominant performance at Memorial Park, finishing at 21-under par and winning by five shots. The victory marked Woodland’s fifth career PGA Tour title and first since the 2919 U.S. Open.
Woodland’s win comes after a long and difficult recovery from surgery to remove a brain lesion, followed by ongoing struggles with anxiety and PTSD.
The win also secures Woodland a return to one of golf’s biggest stages, The Masters, next month at Augusta National.
