Man shot dead during meetup at Northeast Side apartment complex identified

SAN ANTONIO – A man who was shot dead during a parking lot meetup at a Northeast Side apartment complex has been identified.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office said Elijah Rene Bernal, 19, died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The deadly shooting happened at about 8:15 p.m. on March 21 at the Avistar at the Oaks apartment complex off Thousand Oaks near Wetmore Road.

Police said Bernal, a resident of the apartment complex, was supposed to meet someone in the parking lot. When he came outside, he was shot.

EMS pronounced the man dead on scene.

Police say possibly three suspects fled the scene after the shooting. They are still at large.
