Texas Tech registered its first-and-only loss of the 2025 college football season to date last weekend in a road defeat at Arizona State. The 26-22 loss preceded an unwelcome alleged incident postgame.
Red Raiders linebacker David Bailey allegedly grabbed a photographer by his shoulders and the back of his neck postgame as players, coaches and various media members rushed the field after the fourth quarter in Tempe. Mark Rebilas, the photographer in question, first posted a message on Instagram regarding the incident, noting, “the star player on the losing team took issue with me doing my job and thought he needed to put his hands on me.”
Video released on Twitter appears to confirm Rebilas’ claim. Bailey allegedly approached Rebilas from behind, and after quick, heated words between the two, Bailey purportedly grabs Rebilas with his left hand. Several Texas Tech players and coaches then intervened, removing Bailey before what could become an ugly incident.
Rebilas said on Instagram he filed a police report postgame. He posted several photos of the Sun Devils’ victory, including a final frame with a close-up of Bailey’s face.
Bailey has not been reprimanded for the alleged incident as of Sunday. It appears the Red Raiders weren’t exactly scarred by the close loss at Arizona State.
Texas Tech cruised to a 42-0 home win over Oklahoma State in Lubbock on Saturday, advancing to 7–1 in 2025. As for Bailey, he continues to improve his NFL Draft stock with the Red Raiders after playing his last three seasons at Stanford. Bailey leads the Big 12 with 10.5 sacks through his team’s first eight games, adding 13 tackles for loss.Â
Bailey projects to be a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft next fall, perhaps arriving in the professional ranks after a historic College Football Playoff appearance with the Red Raiders.
