It is safe to say that El Paso is in its concert era! The Sun Bowl has been on a roll lately with the announcement of major concerts like BTS, then Post Malone. Well, soon there will be another concert venue that will hopefully bring big acts to El Paso: Sunset Amphitheater.

Last year it was announced that Northeast El Paso would be home to the Sunset Amphitheater. An outdoor venue that would be built where the Cohen Stadium once stood.

Then major news broke when it was announced that Dallas Cowboys legend and three-time Super Bowl champ Troy Aikman would be the official sponsor of the $80 million venue in Northeast El Paso and would be bringing his beer company, EIGHT Elite Light Lager to the venue for a VIP experience, and now we are getting a sneak peak into the $80 million dollar venue.

Last week the Pro Football Hall-of-Famer shared an inside look at the brand-new Ford Amphitheater in Colorado Springs which is a venue developed by Venu. Why does that matter? Because it’s basically a preview of what the planned Sunset Amphitheater El Paso is expected to look like. Obviously El Paso’s venue will be different in many aspects, but it’s great to see how other venues are looking so we can know what to expect here in El Paso.

The upcoming 12,500-seat amphitheater is set to be built in Northeast El Paso at the former Cohen Stadium site. Many locals are hopeful that this new outdoor venue will be a total game-changer for live music in the Borderland.

Add in Aikman’s beer brand, EIGHT Elite Light Lager, and a planned VIP “Aikman Club” featuring premium seating, buffet-style dining, and an open bar and suddenly your average concert night just leveled ALL the way up.

When is Constructions Starting in El Paso?

Construction hasn’t exactly hit full speed yet which has some El Pasoans wondering if the project is still even going to happen. The venue was originally aiming for a late 2026 opening, but there’s been little to no visible progress so far.

However, not all hope is lost. In a recent statement that was shared on Fit Fam El Paso’s Instagram page, Venu confirmed things are moving forward behind the scenes saying:

We’re making strong progress with the final design phase wrapping up in the coming weeks and site work expected to begin in the months ahead.

So the moral of the story is that we must be patient because all good things come to those who wait… or at least that’s what I tell myself. But I am hoping that soon we can see construction and that this new outdoor venue will help El Paso become the Southwest’s newest concert hotspot.
