Texas State softball announced Monday that it’ll play a game April 15 against Texas Tech, a marquee midweek matchup. The Red Raiders are a top-five team in the national and hold a 34-2 record, with their only losses coming against the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Arizona Wildcats.
The Bobcats have shown they can compete with and even beat some of the best Power Four programs. They defeated Texas A&M 3-1 earlier this season and posed a stiff challenge to Texas, eventually falling 3-2.
Texas Tech cemented itself as a premier program after landing pitcher NiJaree Canady and making the Women’s College World Series championship in 2025. However, Texas State won the last meeting between the teams, 8-1 in 2024, and has a 10-13 record inside Bobcat Ballpark against Texas Tech.Â
Texas State has underwhelmed in conference despite having the preseason Sun Belt player of the year, Aiyana Coleman and the preseason Sun Belt pitcher of the year, Madison Azua. It’s lost consecutive series to Marshall and Louisiana. The Bobcats are 4-5 in Sun Belt play, in a five-way tie for third in the standings.
