The spot most recently known as a CrossFit gym next door to Backyard on Broadway is about to become your next favorite after-hours watering hole.

You’ve definitely seen the building. Bright red, corrugated steel. Right along Broadway. The team behind Backyard have taken over the property, and are set to open the bar Overtime in the cavernous space in mid-April.

Managing partner Ohio Crawford said the new bar is an expansion of Backyard, but will have its own identity. There will be a separate menu (available as counter pick-up) through the kitchen at Backyard.

“All in to-go boxes, everything ready to go,” Crawford said. “It’ll be a different menu from over there, but out of that kitchen, we have dino nuggets on the menu. Who doesn’t want dino nuggets, right?”

The spaces are separated by tall wooden fencing. Some of the gym components have carried over, including sports-themed murals on the walls. Crawford is exploring the possibility of adding a punching bag machine. Expect pool tables, dart boards and other attractions to make an appearance.

Crawford has helped transform the space at 2411 Broadway, opened in 2018, into an impressive bar that banks primarily on food sales. With the addition of Overtime, the sprawling space will span nearly a block along the Broadway corridor near Brackenridge Park. Crawford, who got his start under celebrated chef Jason Dady, has kept food at the center of his concept.

“We are food first. And that’s the focus. But our drinks are great,” Crawford said.

Overtime is aiming for a mid-April open, possibly as soon as the weekend of April 10. For more information and announcements, follow them on Instagram at overtimebarsa.
