EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 33-year-old Chaparral man was arrested early Saturday after El Paso police said a 47-year-old man was found outside a burning home with injuries consistent with an assault.

Police were called at 3:44 a.m. on 03-28-2026 to the 700 block of North Ochoa on a report of an assaulted person.

Investigators said the El Paso Fire Department had responded to a structure fire at the location and, during that response, found the victim outside the residence.

Police said the victim appeared to have injuries consistent with being assaulted.

Police said both the suspect and the victim were homeless.

He was transported to a burn center in Lubbock and was last listed in critical condition.

Through the investigation, police identified David Garcia as the person responsible for the assault.

Garcia was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.

His bond was set at $500,000.
