Drivers in Irving should expect a series of overnight ramp closures this week at one of the area’s more complex interchanges
IRVING, Texas — Drivers in Irving should expect a series of overnight ramp closures this week at one of the area’s more complex interchanges.
The pattern may feel a little unusual. The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) is closing a different direct connector ramp each night at the intersection of State Highway 183 and the President George Bush Turnpike.
The work runs nightly from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. through early April. This is happening in Irving, just south of DFW Airport, where SH 183 meets the western extension of the PGBT. It is a key north-south toll corridor that connects Irving to Grand Prairie and beyond.

According to NTTA, this work is tied to sign installation and requires full ramp closures for safety. Workers need clear access overhead and along the roadway to install and secure the signage properly. By closing one connector at a time, most traffic movements can remain open while the work is underway.
Nightly closure schedule
Here is how the closures are rotating through the interchange:
March 30 to 31: Westbound SH 183 to southbound PGBT rampMarch 31 to April 1: Northbound PGBT to westbound SH 183 rampApril 1 to 2: Eastbound SH 183 to southbound PGBT rampApril 2 to 3: Northbound PGBT to eastbound SH 183 ramp
Each closure runs overnight from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
If you are traveling through this interchange late at night, expect to be rerouted onto nearby surface streets, primarily Esters Road and Conflans Road. These roads run parallel to the interchange and are commonly used as detours in this area.
The detours are fairly straightforward, but they do add extra turns and travel time, especially for drivers trying to make those high-speed connector movements between SH 183 and PGBT.
The SH 183 and PGBT connection is a critical link in the western part of the Metroplex, especially for traffic moving around DFW Airport and between Irving and Grand Prairie.
The PGBT serves as a major loop across North Texas, connecting multiple cities and helping relieve congestion on other major highways. Because of that, even overnight closures here can impact a steady flow of traffic, including airport traffic, freight movement, and late-night commuters.
As always with overnight road work in North Texas, once crews wrap up, everything is expected to reopen in time for the morning commute.
