North San Antonio

Babcock Road (West Hausman to UTSA Boulevard) project

Project: Part of San Antonio’s 2022-27 bond program, the project will widen roughly 0.4 miles of Babcock Road into a four-lane roadway with a center turn lane. The project will also add sidewalks, curbs and driveway approaches, build a mid-block pedestrian crossing and add drainage improvements.

Update: San Antonio City Council approved a construction contract with E-Z Bel Construction LLC on Jan. 29 in an amount not to exceed $6.17 million, with $88,955 to be reimbursed by the San Antonio Water System and $241,143 to be reimbursed by CPS Energy.

Coll Street Drainage Improvements

Project: The roadway will see improvements to drainage, right of way and underground utility conversion on Coll Street between Castell Avenue and the Comal River, agenda documents state.

Update: On Jan. 26, the New Braunfels City Council approved a motion to begin the process of finding contractors.

Northeast San Antonio Metrocom

Cibolo FY25 Street Rehabilitation Package II

Project: The reconstruction of Firebird Run, Silver Wing and Town Creek Road. This is the second set of roads funded for reconstruction under the 2025 general obligation bonds. The first phase included construction on Deer Creek Boulevard and Green Valley Road.

Update: Work on Town Creek Road is expected to wrap up by the end of February. Construction on Firebird Run began Jan. 8 and is expected to be completed in the spring. City Manager Wayne Reed on Feb. 10 said the first layer of asphalt will be placed on Firebird Run by Feb. 23.

Loop 1604 and Blanco Road

The project: As Segment 3 of the Loop 1604 North Expansion project nears completion, the Texas Department of Transportation is beginning the final phase of construction of San Antonio’s first diverging diamond interchange at the Blanco Road and Loop 1604 interchange. This new configuration is designed to ease traffic congestion at one of the most heavily traveled corridors in the region.

The update: A full weekend closure to shift traffic to the DDI pattern occurred in March. TxDOT officials said the speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph during construction but will be raised back to the normal 45 mph once construction is complete.
