A cat that had a jar stuck on its head, prompting a small East Side search, is no longer in danger after finding help from an area resident.
The cat was first reported in the first week of March near the 2700 block of East Houston Street, not far from the Frost Bank Center, after Animal Care Services said it had been seen with a container stuck on its head.
A citizen who tried to help took a photo of the cat and shared it online. The image quickly spread, drawing concern from readers.
ACS said they set a humane trap to catch the feline. Ultimately, it found its way into an East Side resident’s backyard as a boy was playing.
The animal appeared to be in visible distress, frightening the child, who went inside to get his mother.
She was able to remove the container, and the cat then reportedly “ran off like he stole something,” the helpers said.
The container was described as a plastic jar that may have previously held a seasoned snack mix, such as mixed nuts or snack crackers.
