Texas is off to a strong early start in 2027 with six early commitments, and the Longhorns added another piece to the puzzle on Monday.

Three-star Austin (Texas) Westlake offensive lineman Jackson Cook has added his name to the commitment list on Monday, he told Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett. He chose the Longhorns over offers from Arkansas, Duke, Texas Tech, SMU and a handful of other programs.

Cook has strong family connections to the program, including his stepfather Matt Trissell, who played for UT two decades ago.

“At the end of the day, it’s The University of Texas and that brand means a lot to people in this state,” he told Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman.

… Coach Flood and I talked about going to place where I could be developed and have the college experience and the relationships that my step dad and all his college buddies have. Coach told me that he wants to be the guy that coaches me the next four years.”

The 6-4, 290-pounder has experience playing both inside at guard and outside at tackle. He also has posted workout videos of him getting reps at center.

He’s eager to play just down the road from his high school and don the burnt orange.

“It means a lot to my family and is cool that I could wear the burnt orange like my step dad’s did 20 years ago,” he said. “I have been going  to UT games since I was little and the thought of getting to play in DKR is surreal for me.

Cook is ranked as the No. 937 overall prospect, the No. 73 IOL, and the No. 114 player in Texas in the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.

He is the seventh addition to the class for Texas, headlined by five-star Louisiana wide receiver Easton Royal.
