CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A longtime Coastal Bend tradition is seeking volunteers as the Easter Sunrise Passion Play looks for actors ahead of this Sunday’s performance at Cole Park.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Coastal Bend Easter tradition that has spanned more than eight decades is now calling on the community for help.
Organizers of the Easter Sunrise Passion Play say they are in urgent need of volunteers to take part in this year’s performance, set for Sunday morning at Cole Park.
The annual event, now in its 84th year, brings the story of the Passion of Christ to life at the Cole Park Amphitheater and has long been a fixture for families across the region on Easter weekend.
This year, organizers say they are short on actors — but emphasize that anyone can take part.
No experience is required, and there are no lines to memorize.
Participants are simply asked to attend a rehearsal scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cole Park Amphitheater, where organizers will guide volunteers through their roles.
The performance itself will take place at sunrise Sunday, beginning around 7 a.m.
Organizers say the event is open to all and hope community members will step up to help continue the decades-long tradition.
