SAN ANTONIO — Easter camping is back! San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department officials announced on Tuesday the annual park curfew will be lifted at several city parks for the holiday.

Park curfew will be lifted starting at 11 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, and will resume at 11 p.m. on Easter Sunday, April 5.

Overnight camping will be allowed at the following City Parks:

Brackenridge Park, 3700 N. St. Mary’s (excludes the Avenue B Brackenridge Parking Garage)Brackenridge Park, First Tee, 915 E. Trash & Recycling

Patrons are urged to bring trash bags and remove their trash at the end of their stay in the park. To help support proper waste disposal, the Park Stewardship team and volunteers will be visiting parks to promote recycling opportunities and provide extra trash bags to park visitors. Park guests are reminded that recycling bins are available in the parks and should be used for plastic bottles and cans. No glass containers are allowed. Food-contaminated waste should be disposed of in trash cans.

BBQ Fire Safety

In addition, the San Antonio Fire Department reminds park visitors to stay safe when BBQing with the following fire safety tips:

Take Care Around the Grill: Never leave a lit grill unattended. Don’t allow kids or pets to play near the grill. Never try to move a lit or hot grill. It will stay hot for at least an hour after use.Be Careful with Charcoal Starter Fluid: For charcoal grills, only use charcoal starter fluid. If the fire starts to go out, don’t add starter fluid or other flammable liquids to the fire. Consider using a charcoal chimney starter, which uses newspaper to start the fire instead of starter fluid.Grease Fires: If a grease fire starts on the grill, do not pour water on it. For charcoal grills with no lid, please call 911. To safely extinguish a grease fire on a gas grill, turn off the gas and close the lid, if you can safely do so, and call 911.Charcoal Grills: Extinguish all coals, safely dispose of ash, and clean grill to prevent additional fire.Safe Ash Disposal: Before putting in the trash, wrap cooled, damp ashes in heavy-duty aluminum foil. Never place in a recycling bin.Proper Clothing: Clothing can easily catch fire. Be sure your shirt tails, sleeves or apron strings don’t dangle over the grill.
