SAN ANTONIO – Ruben Ramirez has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for the murder of San Juan Melchor after being dismissed of claims of self-defense.

According to prosecution, in April 2023, Ramirez ordered Melchor to leave a property at gunpoint. After Melchor refused to leave, Ramirez shot him once in the chest and fled the scene. Melchor later died from his injuries.

At the time of his arrest, Ramirez was found to be in illegal possession of a firearm.

“We are immensely grateful to the jury for their careful deliberation and commitment to justice,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said. “Our mission remains clear in ensuring that offenders will face the consequences of their unlawful behavior.”

During the trial, the jury learned Ramirez had two previous prison sentences and was classified as a Habitual Felony Offender.
