SAN ANTONIO – New details have emerged about the body found last weekend as crews battled a brush fire on the East Side.
Firefighters were called out around 7:30 a.m. on March 29 to an area off Rigsby Avenue near Algin Avenue after a passerby saw a fire in the ditch.

The police report says that while crews were putting out the fire, they discovered a human body wrapped in a jacket or shower curtain. Also, the person was “bound by his hands.”
The Bexar County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Manuel Gomez Mendez Jr., 84, on Tuesday. His cause and manner of death are still pending release.
