The Tejano community is in mourning after representatives for “Godfather of Tejano” David Lee Garza took to social media Monday evening to announce that his son, David Jr., has died at 44 years old. He leaves behind his wife and two small children.
“It’s a Sad Day very Sad Day, this afternoon we lost a family member, David Lee Garza lost his Son DLG jr,” the post reads.
“Please keep the Garza Family and especially DLG Jr. family his wife Rachel Garza and his 2 young sons, in prayers … David Lee Garza Jr now sits with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
The family did not publicly announce the circumstances behind David Jr.’s death. However, the David Lee Garza y los Musicales Facebook account published a 7:24 a.m. update to social media on Sunday, imploring followers to pray for David Jr.
“Please don’t ask any questions and respect his privacy but please say a prayer for David Lee’s son David Lee Garza Jr.,” the post read.
Messages of support poured in from fans, including from former Tejano music artist and current political candidate Bobby Pulido: “My heart hurts for David Lee Garza and the entire Garza family on the loss of David Lee Garza Jr,” he wrote in a Tuesday morning update.
Grammy Award-winning Tejano group La Mafia also expressed grief in a Tuesday update to social media: “Our condolences to the David Lee Garza family on their loss of the passing of David Lee Garza Jr , our prayers are with you 🙏🏻”
The family of David Lee Garza Jr. said they will update the public with funeral arrangements when they are made.
