Officers responded to reports of an automobile-pedestrian accident about 1:30 a.m. in the 4600 block of I-30 westbound.

Investigators determined the unidentified woman was walking in the main lanes of the highway when she was struck by a driver who did not see her, the statement said. Police said they do not know why the woman was walking along the highway.

The Grand Prairie Fire Department arrived at the scene, where she was pronounced dead.

Police said the driver was not injured and is cooperating with investigators. No further details about the crash were immediately available.

The incident marks the third pedestrian fatality since Monday in North Texas.
