SOCORRO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — A driver accused of fleeing an attempted traffic stop and then hiding inside a home was arrested after deputies and other agencies set up a perimeter in Socorro, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
On Sunday, at about 6:01 a.m., deputies attempted to stop a white Chevrolet Equinox near the intersection of Tierra Este Road and Tierra Arena Drive in El Paso County.
The driver did not stop and continued traveling at a slow speed before eventually coming to a stop, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies gave loud verbal commands for the driver to get out of the vehicle, but the driver suddenly accelerated and fled the area, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies identified the vehicle’s license plate and the driver as 31-year-old Jesus Beltran of Socorro.
A short time later, deputies located the vehicle in the 10400 block of Tierra Suave Drive in Socorro.
With assistance from the Socorro Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, deputies established a perimeter and determined Beltran was inside a residence, the sheriff’s office said.
After Beltran refused to comply with multiple commands to exit, deputies were granted consent to enter the home. Beltran was found hiding inside and taken into custody without incident, according to the sheriff’s office.
During the investigation, deputies said they found cocaine inside Beltran’s wallet.
He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on charges of evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance PG 1/1-B less than 1 gram. His total bond was set at $8,000.
