EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso City Council announced April 1 that a construction contract has been put in place for the Sun City Lights project at Pueblo Viejo Park, located at 233 North Zaragoza Road.

Planned project location on North Zaragoza Road (City of El Paso Capital Improvement Dept.)
Sun City Lights is an initiative designed to create vibrant destinations and interactive public spaces across the community.
Officials from the Capital Improvement Department stated that the program aims to transform public areas into engaging illuminated environments that encourage community connection, enhance neighborhoods, and support economic development.

“This project represents an important investment in Pueblo Viejo Park and in the families who use it every day,” said District 7 City Representative Lily Limón. “By enhancing this space with decorative lighting and improved amenities, we are creating a more inviting environment that brings people together and adds value to the surrounding neighborhood.”
According to a news release, the project will introduce decorative lighting features intended to enhance the park’s visual character, improve nighttime visibility, and create a more welcoming, pedestrian-friendly experience for residents and visitors.
The cost of construction is estimated to be $667,000, while the total project is estimated to be a $1.29 million investment.
Officials say the park will include:
A pavilion with decorative lighting
New sidewalks with lighting to improve connectivity
Three concrete benches with illuminated pathway structures and motion sensors
A rock wall monument sign
The project is funded through the City of El Paso’s 2019 Capital Improvement Plan.
Construction is expected to begin this spring and be completed by Fall 2026.
