Dickey leads Texas Tech offense in 42-17 win over Kansas

  • October 14, 2025

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – No. 9 Texas Tech (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) combined for only 14 catches on offense but a total of 372 rushing yards, 263 by Cameron Dickey, led the Red Raiders to a 42-17 win over Kansas (4-3, 2-1 Big 12).

This is the first time the Red Raiders are 6-0 since 2013. Texas Tech has won by 20+ points in all six of its games.

Dickey’s total is the fifth most by a Red Raider in single-game history, surpassing Byron Hanspard’s 260 in 1995. Hanspard, though, still holds the No. 1 spot with 287 in 1996 against Baylor.

“It felt great. I feel like we had a great week of practice. It all lead up to the game, and I had a great day,” Dickey said, while giving credit to his offensive line- especially with the 71-yard touchdown run at the beginning of the game.

“O-line did a great job. It split like the Red Sea, and I was off to the races,” he said. “The boys make it easy. They had a great night tonight, so I put it all on them”

Coach Joey McGuire said the big breakout runs were possible because of the physicality of the Red Raider skill-position players.

“Those long runs happened, those long touchdown runs where you’re going 60 and 70, it happens because you have great perimeter blocking and great downfield blocking, and so I thought those guys did a really good job, and they are physical,” Coach McGuire said. “They take a lot of pride in being the most physical team, and that’s what we ask our guys to do. Whenever we turn on the tape tomorrow, (we ask) ‘Did you give everything you got,’ and ‘Were you the most physical player on the field?’”

Defensive lineman Skyler Gill-Howard was carted off the field with a left foot/ankle injury as he was in a walking boot on the sideline following the first-quarter injury.

The Red Raiders jumped out quick to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. The second was much different, though, as Kansas scored 17 unanswered points.

Texas Tech was then without starting QB Behren Morton for the entire second half after leaving with a possible lower leg/ankle injury.

Will Hammond replaced him for the second time this season due to injury, the first in a road win over Utah.

Hammond finished with 42 yards on the night on seven completions. Morton finished with seven completions as well with 91 yards and one touchdown.

Hammond rushed for 61 yards on the night and a rushing score.
