More than 300 Texans from near and far lined up outside the $1.75 million shop at 850 N. Bell Boulevard in Cedar Park, a suburb north of Austin. The first 200 shoppers scored free gift bags and gift cards, some worth up to $100, which was one of the main reasons why people decided to shop at Aldi as inflation continues to surge.
“Aldi is the low-cost leader in groceries in the United States,” Aldi Divisional Vice President for the Rosenberg division, Scott Huska, said during the store’s ribbon cutting ceremony. “We save the average family, 36% or about $4,000 a year.”
Lampasas resident Ashley Cluck told MySA she woke up at 4:30 a.m. and drove an hour with her daughter to be one of the first few people in line at 5:30 a.m. for the grand opening. She was excited to try her luck at the Aldi Golden Ticket gift card giveaway so she can use it to purchase groceries for her family.Â
Beth Walsh, who lives in Leander, a city about five miles away from Cedar Park, said she was inclined to try out Aldi because of its reputation for being an affordable grocery store amid rising costs. She was also curious how its prices and products could compare to other grocers like H-E-B.
“Grocery prices nowadays have been so bad, [and] Aldi it’s a pretty inexpensive option to do for groceries,” Walsh said. “I’ve heard their [Aldi’s] produce is way better and I love H-E-B, but sometimes their produce is hit or miss.”
Huska added that Aldi has received a huge welcoming from the Cedar Park community, adding, “we couldn’t be more proud to have the opportunity to service customers here. We think they’re going to find great value, really high quality products at the lowest prices.” When asked if the company may be seeking more growth in Central Texas near San Antonio, Huska said Aldi “is always looking at vibrant areas with a population that would benefit from having an Aldi all over Texas.”
“We’re excited to be continuing our expansion in the state,” he concluded.Â
In Texas, Aldi operates 128 stores across the state, mainly in small suburbs outside big metros. This Cedar Park opening brings Aldi one step closer to its goal of having 3,200 stores by the end of 2028.
