A deadly crash near downtown Houston left one person dead and several others hurt overnight. Investigators are now trying to determine what caused it.

HOUSTON — A deadly overnight crash near east downtown Houston left one person dead and several others hurt, with police now working to determine what led up to the collision.

The crash happened just after midnight early Friday at the intersection of Pierce Street and Hutchins Street, according to police.

Investigators said two cars collided at the intersection.

Six people were taken to the hospital following the crash, including five people who were inside one of the vehicles.

One of those passengers later died at the hospital. Another person remains in critical condition.

Authorities have not released additional details about the victims.

Police are continuing to investigate what caused the crash.
