I heard whispers of $1 taco Tuesday at a north Fort Worth food truck from the Fort Worth Foodies Facebook group.
Not only did I hear word about the prices, but people were saying that the food was actually good.
I had been looking for street style tacos for a while and I had also been looking for some authentic-tasting trompo tacos in Fort Worth.
For those who don’t know, trompo is a spit that meat is vertically stacked on and roasted (comparable to what gyro meat is cooked on). In Mexico, El Pastor (pork) is commonly roasted on a trompo and then shaved off. The meat is commonly served on corn tortillas with cilantro and onion, sometimes pineapple.
As a little girl I went to Ensenada, Mexico for many mission trips, and some of my favorite memories were eating trompo-roasted el pastor tacos with the village kids. And no tacos have tasted like those, until I tried Super Taco Food Truck.
I was so pleasantly surprised with the authentic flavor of these trompo tacos. But I was even more pleased with the fact that I spent less than $5 for three tacos.

I would consider Super Taco Food Truck as a hidden gem.
It’s not a food truck you’d notice when you’re driving by. It’s parked randomly in an empty lot next to a used car dealership. But it’s worth a stop, despite the inconspicuous look.
Normally, tacos are $2.50, which would still fit our budget beautifully. But why not pinch pennies and go on a Tuesday when they are $1?
Every meat on the menu except tripa (beef intestines) is $1 on taco Tuesdays– beef asada, el pastor, chicken, buche pork, barbacoa beef, carnitas pork and beef birria. Tacos come on small corn tortillas served with onion, cilantro, lime and red and green salsa.
I could have kept my order to just three tacos, but I also wanted some rice and beans. I saw some foodies had mentioned the beans were yummy. And then to wash it down, I ordered a Mexican Coke, which was the size of a wine bottle.
Three El Pastor tacos: $3Rice and beans: $5Mexican Coke: $4Tax: $0.75Total: $12.75
(I would like to note I always offer to tip 20 percent, but that was not given as an option to me when I ordered.)
