Something new is steadily taking shape along the I‑35 corridor, and San Marcos residents can’t miss it. Just past the popular San Marcos Outlets, the city’s third H‑E-B is emerging as a massive presence, signaling both retail growth and the area’s rapid expansion.
“This is our first San Marcos store on the east side of the highway, so it really just all came together to be a perfect spot for us,” H‑E-B Senior Director of Public Affairs for Central Texas Heidi Post said at the time.
By February, steel beams were already climbing above the site, giving passersby a first glimpse of the store’s scale. Heavy equipment had churned the dirt months earlier, setting the stage for the massive structure now rising along the corridor. Fast forward to Thursday, April 2, and the parking lot is partially complete, the walls are up and crews are hard at work on the interior and exterior.
Anticipated to open in late 2026, the new H‑E-B will bring the brand’s full suite of services to San Marcos, including a pharmacy drive-thru, curbside pickup, home delivery, fresh tortillas, bakery items, a meat and seafood market, a Sushiya sushi bar and the popular Meal Simple prepared-food section. A fuel station, car wash and H‑E-B Fresh Bites convenience store are also planned on site.
Perhaps most notable for locals, the store will feature San Marcos’ first True Texas BBQ restaurant. The in-store eatery will serve all-natural meats smoked in-house over Texas oak wood, along with classic sides such as brisket beans, creamed corn and homestyle potato salad.
As walls rise and construction continues, one thing is clear: A full-service grocery destination is coming soon to San Marcos.
